San Diego Zoo - A Premier U.S. Animal Park

Widely considered to be the best in the world, San Diego Zoo is a premier U.S. destination for nature lovers of all ages. Its 100 acres are home to over 4,000 rare and endangered animals, as well as a gorgeous botanical garden full of more than 700,000 colorful plants. You can wander the grounds for days on end, so it's best to take the 35-minute Guided Bus Tour first, plan your path, and then begin your own personal adventure. Just make sure to fit in Panda Canyon!

Tour Options

There are all sorts of tours available at San Diego Zoo. Some of the best include the Sunrise Surprise Stroll and Twilight Trek. For more in-depth explorations, the Ape Adventure Discovery Tour is a guided1-hour ramble in the Lost Forest, while the standard Discovery Tour skillfully covers the whole zoo in an hour! If you want a truly unique experience, go behind the scenes with a Backstage Pass, complete with up close encounters, pictures, and more.

Popular Shows

Fan favorites include: Camp Critters, where sea lions, birds, top predators, domestic animals, and humans meet in the name of fun; the hilarious Dr. Zoolittle Show; and the Ice Age™ 4-D Experience ($6), an adventurous treat for nearly all the senses. Of course, no visit is complete without seeing the Giant Pandas in Panda Canyon!


  • What services are available for the elderly or disabled?

    The San Diego Zoo provides guests with special needs designated parking, rest rooms, and access to everything the park has to offer. There is also shuttle bus for those with limited mobility, service animals are welcome on the grounds, and a limited number of wheelchairs and scooters are available for rental as well. Admission is free for required caregivers.
  • Are there any attractions or activities besides animal exhibits?

    Of course! The Lighter Side Comedy Tour is a 50-minute comedy version of the Bus Tour, and guests can actually feed giraffes themselves on weekends. Great on-site restaurants include: Albert’s, with an open-air deck over a waterfall; Sabertooth Grill at Elephant Odyssey, featuring farm-fresh cuisine; and Hua Mei Café, near Panda Canyon. There are also themed shops in every area of the zoo to take home souvenirs of your favorite animals.
